Your about me page will either be a very easy thing for you to write… or something very challenging. Either way, we hope this article will make the process easier for you.

“About” pages are a great way to introduce yourself to potential clients, contacts, or anyone really. One of the most important aspects of an “about” page is proving you are who you say you are!

Establishing credibility

This is a crucial aspect of your about page especially if you are writing it for a business or a professional site about yourself. People want to know if they can trust you, and the best way to show that is by establishing credibility.

A great way of accomplishing this is to list your jobs/roles in your career. For example, this entrepreneur’s “about” page on his website includes not just his current role but also the many related positions he’s held over his long career.

Accomplishments

Similar to establishing your credibility, this is your chance to go into depth about what problems you have solved throughout your career. It is very important to not boast too much. Try to speak only in facts.

A good example of someone correctly telling the reader about their accomplishments can be found on this about me page.

Another thing to loop into this section are the current goals you are working on in your career. What problems are you currently solving for your work?

Your story

Another great way to establish trust with the readers of your “about” page is to tell a story about yourself that you think really speaks true to your character. It’s okay to get a bit descriptive when telling the story, but remember to not speak too highly of yourself.

Your readers will like to relate to something and see the human in you. No one is perfect, and so an about me page that only has your polished work and not how you got there is no good.

Include an image

It’s important to have your image match what you want your about me page to accomplish. If you are a blog writer or have a more casual job, it’s okay to have a less professional photo. However, if you are a banker for example, you will probably want to wear a three piece suit and have a simple background.

You should really get your photo shot professionally, as it can be hard to get a good photo done yourself. A professional photo will have the best lighting, colors, and it will genuinely add to your page’s credibility.

Keep your page fresh

So many people continue to use ‘about me’ pages that are years outdated. Most of the information on the page may stay relevant, but it is crucial that you appear an active person in the working world, or else it will be assumed you haven’t done anything since your page was last updated.

Don’t worry though, it’s fine to update your page once a year or however long it takes you to progress further. We hope you were able to use some of our tips to improve your own about me page, and if you would like to do further research you can check out this article by The Balance Careers.
