Laptop repair issues 101:

Let us look at the most commonly occurring laptop troubles.

1. Battery issues:

The portability factor of the laptop is one of its best features. But, our constant fear of running out of battery makes us keep our device constantly plugged in for charging. This might result in your device either not getting charged or charging slowly because of old batteries or due to defective charging hardware. A very common error could arise due to windows issue or a failing battery.

You can start by checking the bottom right-hand corner of the taskbar and look for battery icon. It showcases the status of the battery. It will be better to check the power supply socket before making any conclusions about battery or hardware issues. The solution might require you to replace the battery for older laptops but it will be better to seek the advice of a repair consultant about the issues before jumping the gun or you might need to purchase a new laptop.

2. A laptop isn’t turning on/restarting or shutting down unexpectedly:

With no signs of life, the issue might have arisen due to insufficient supply of voltage to charger or jack has been damaged on the motherboard. Another issue that annoys many of us is the frequent restarting of the laptop in the middle of the work. This problem can arise due to various hardware troubles or corrupt files present in the windows. Whereas unexpected shutting down of the laptop is concerned, it could also be a hardware failure or more complicated problem altogether. Under such conditions, it is advisable to create a backup of the data and programs on your laptop as soon as possible. All these above-listed issues warrant the urgent attention of a repair expert before you lose precious data stored on the laptop.

3. Heating issue:

All laptops get a little warm due to their design and no matter how cool the external temperature is your device might be heating up due to internal issues. These issues can arise by the virtue of several reasons such as the build-up of lint in the fans; silicone paste which earlier used to transfer heat from the CPU and GPU has dried up after few years, etc. Further, it is advised to let laptops cool down a bit before turning it off and disconnecting the power. Generally, laptops have a safety temperature of 105 degrees before the device auto shuts down. Therefore, constantly exposing your laptop to heat should be avoided as it can cause permanent damage to it. Other solutions like using a cooling pad, cleaning dust and dirt, allowing for 10 minutes cool down for the laptop can work wonders to ward off these heating troubles. But if your device is too warm even after adapting to such changes, it’s time to consult an expert for laptop repair.

4. Blue screen of death:

In case of a complete breakdown of your hard drive, Windows will try to warn you by indicating a blue screen with an error message. This could be the result of a major issue with the hard drive, any computer components or the OS. It is normally a sign of a bigger issue with the device. If this happens, try resolving the issue with the help of windows troubleshooting software and try to recover and restore the system to an earlier point. If this doesn’t work, you may need to reinstall the windows software.

5. Unresponsive keyboard:

This could be due to issues with a number lock, dirt, and dust or damaged keys. While the num lock problem is quite petty and resolves easily, on the other hand, compressed air can be used to clean the dusty matters of the keyboard. But damaged keys won’t start working from these cleaning remedies. Check the keyboard status to know if the keyboard driver is connected or not. If the status is problematic, the laptop needs expert care.

6. The laptop makes a sound:

Is your laptop making weird and unusual sounds while working? Although everything seems fine it might not be the case. This rattling sound your device makes is an indication that there’s a trouble that needs to be fixed. These noises can be due to damaged hinges or plastic mounting points, etc. Therefore, whenever you hear a strange noise coming from your laptop, it doesn’t hurt to get it checked by a professional before matter worsens.
