As a business, you want to make sure that your data is secure and safe. A comprehensive Data Management Plan (DMP) will help you accomplish this goal. A DMP can be considered the “blueprint” of your organization’s information management strategy. It includes goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for efficiently managing all types of data. In this blog post, we’ll explore five benefits that come from completing a comprehensive Data Management Plan!

1. A comprehensive data management plan will help you meet the requirements of the new GDPR legislation.

A comprehensive DMP can help you prepare for the new regulations with GDPR  (General Data Protection Regulation). It’s a regulation from the European Union that will become enforceable on May 25, 2018. GDPR is intended to protect all EU citizens and residents by regulating how organizations process their data. Areas covered include consent requirements, individual rights about accessing information held about them, and mandatory disclosure of breaches where appropriate.

For example, it will let you know what types of data your company holds so that you can apply the correct consent mechanisms to each type. Additionally, if there was ever a breach in security or loss of sensitive client information, having an up-to-date plan could be beneficial after consulting with

2. Ensures that your company’s data is safe, secure, and accessible

A DMP helps you ensure that your company’s data is safe, secure, and accessible. You will see how long information can remain in a certain storage system or medium before it must be destroyed. There are also rules for what happens if records need to be retained beyond their normal retention period – does the business have a state/federal government license authorizing them to keep those records?

3. Provides a clear view of what data is being collected and where it resides within your organization

A comprehensive DMP will help you understand the flow of data in your organization. You’ll be able to map out where different types of information are stored and how it flows between systems and teams. This is also a great way for employees who work with specific sets of data (i.e., accountants, salespeople) to know which files they should access when completing their daily tasks.

For example, if an employee wants to view or edit customer contact info within Profisee, but that information isn’t updated in Dreamfluent CRM yet, a plan can help them determine why this has happened, so they don’t waste time trying to locate missing data! Additionally, by knowing what type of file each person needs to complete their job functions.

4. Makes sure that any third party suppliers are also compliant with the new regulations

GDPR requires that organizations using third-party suppliers to process data on their behalf must maintain a contract in place with said supplier. The DMP will give you the information needed to create this type of agreement and stay up-to-date.

For example, if your business uses an outside team for marketing purposes – having a Data Management Plan can help ensure they have proper consent mechanisms when collecting personal info from potential or current clients! This could be found within section “D” under GDPR’s Article 28, which discusses how companies need to provide proof of compliance with these new regulations.

5. Helps to ensure compliance with all other legal obligations such as SOX, PCI DSS, etc.

A DMP will help you meet other legal obligations such as SOX and PCI-DSS. You’ll be able to see the different types of data your company is storing and ensure that it meets all regulatory requirements. This can also provide a clear record for auditors who may need to review how these files were handled within the organization!

For example, if your business deals with a highly sensitive client or patient information – having a comprehensive Data Management Plan in place allows your team to comply with any federal/state security regulations. Additionally, by knowing what type of file each person needs to complete their job functions.

Hopefully, this has shown you five of the many benefits of completing a comprehensive data management plan. We hope that this post will help inspire your company to start working on an actionable, thorough, and thoughtful plan for managing customer information in compliance with new gdpr legislation.
