There aren’t thousands of space logistics companies as of yet, but there are enough to make you lose track. Today, we’ll be talking about the top 4 space logistics companies and how they’re progressing.
SpaceX:
Founded by Elon Musk in 2000, SpaceX remains the most influential and undisputed leader in the space logistics sector. There are a number of varieties of spacecraft from SpaceX like the Falcon Heavy, Falcon 9, plus launch vehicles, rockets, and satellite factories. In fact, SpaceX now has its own spaceport in South Texas.
SpaceX is rapidly evolving, with CEO Elon Musk at the helm. Currently, SpaceX is testing their Dragon Passenger spacecraft, and they have confirmed to provide logistics to the Artemis spacecraft that’s orbiting the moon.
Blue Origin:
Blue Origin is owned by Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon. Currently, Blue Origin is working relentlessly to develop a passenger spacecraft. Blue Origin have developed a spacecraft that can be re-used and can take off vertically.
Additionally, the Blue Origin team have put forth the prototype of their space module that’s set to travel to the moon. This module seems very promising as it can carry heavy loads. The Blue Origin team is already lining up people for the passenger spacecraft that they’re developing, and hopefully, they’ll be done with it soon. The tickets will go on sale this year, but we don’t know the prices yet.
Aerojet Rocketdyne:
Aerojet Rocketdyne was formed back in 2013, they are on top when it comes to rocket engines of liquid and solid propellants. Other than spacecraft, Aerojet Rocketdyne is also developing solar generators. In fact, the power supply of the ISS is also being developed by their incredible tea. Recently, they’ve been chosen by NASA to develop landing modules for the Artemis project.
Virgin Galactic:
Owned by Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic is progressing each year, and they’re set underway with designing one of the very first passenger spacecraft. Currently, Virgin Galactic is testing their SpaceShipTwo, which is most likely to launch next year.
SpaceShipTwo is designed to take eight passengers to space, including two pilots. The spacecraft will glide back to the earth once it reaches a certain altitude, and the passengers will be able to take photos and videos with the built-in cameras.
Lockheed Martin:
Lockheed Martin is another space logistics company. Although they profit mainly from developing and manufacturing military-grade aircraft, they do have quite a lot of achievements in space as well. They have tons of GPS satellites, launch vehicles, and specialized space logistics software and warehouse management systems.
Conclusion:
These are the main space logistics companies that are competing with one another, and a common goal amongst most of them is commercializing space flights.
