One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.

Teaching is the only profession that creates all the other professions. You must have heard this phrase a lot of times in life, but did you ever wonder how a teacher makes everything seem so effortless?

Let us unfold it for you.

WHAT IS TEACHING?

Teaching can be defined as a give and take relationship that helps the learner gain knowledge about a certain concept. (And in today’s era of the internet, Online teachers and online teaching are very high in demand.)

  • WHO IS A TEACHER?

A teacher a person who helps the learners gain knowledge on a certain topic. A teacher is an English word and not an acronym, so it has no full form. But many students show respect and love to their traditional as well as online teachers by giving beautiful full forms to the word- TEACHER.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A TEACHER

The qualifications of a teacher may differ from country to country, as different countries and institutions may have their own rules and eligibility criteria. For example- In India, a master’s degree with special qualifications such as B.ED, NE Tor JRF, etc works(although this criterion may differ for the online teachers in India) but Japan may not accept teachers on this basis.

6 REASONS WHY TEACHING IS THE NEW BLACK

  • SHAPE THE FUTURE: A teacher may help the children with their academics as well as life in general. And some decisions or choices we make are for life. An IAS officer or a doctor may be into their profession because their teacher inspired them to. Also, the values they carry and the way they treat people comes from what they have learned. So, a good teacher may change the future of the children as well as the society. (Hrithik Roshan’s film called ‘Super 30’ is a great example of the same.)
  • LEARNING NEVER STOPS: Children are a question bank and to satisfy their curiosity and help them the best way possible, it is important for a teacher to keep learning. Let us take an example of the collapse in the educational system caused by the covid-19 outbreak. Millions of teachers and students had to shift from traditional teaching to online teaching apps, and many teachers who were not technology-friendly tried to adapt and learn it to help their students. This way learning never stops in this profession.
  • FAMILY TIME AND JOB SECURITY: Unlike any other profession, teachers have the perk of paid holidays which means they do get to spend quality time with their family and themselves. The job pays well when it comes to managing finances. Also, the world will always be needing teachers no matter how advance the technology grows, so hello aspiring teachers you don’t have to worry about job security.
  • INDEPENDENT FUNCTIONING: Teachers are mostly their own boss as there are no set of rules or patterns on how someone should teach. Within the classroom framework, a teacher is independent to make his/her own decisions on the lesson plans, etc. They might have to present time to time progress reports required by the management, but they generally do not interfere in your teaching patterns until your students have happy report cards.
  • WORK OVERSEAS: Teaching might provide you good opportunities to travel across the world while earning good. You can appear for exams like IELTS and TOEFL to be eligible for teaching the English language in other countries. You can also become an online teacher in different countries. If you are someone who underestimated the teaching profession, we hope you now have a changed perspective.

THE ‘E, T, C’ RULE

Although each teacher has something unique to deliver, the E, T, C rule might add on stars to their teaching. The ‘E’ stands for ‘Expectations’, the ‘T’ stands for ‘Transparency’, and the ‘C’ stands for ‘Care’.

  • EXPECTATIONS: A good teacher shall always have realistic and high expectations from his students neglecting whatever their records may be. A little encouragement from teachers might boost up student’s confidence and might help them score well. After all, a little push at the correct time by the correct person is all a learner needs to excel.
  • TRANSPARENCY: Does not matter if you are an offline or online teacher, but it’s your job to make your students feel connected to your working pattern and your expectations from them. You should make sure to provide the students with the syllabus beforehand. They should know your grading criteria and what exactly you look at in their answers. Remember to point out their wrong answers and help them with the right ones.
  • CARE: This might seem off the track but this is the key to better connect with your students. Every passing month, do a mental health check with your students to know if they are doing well. Many types of research prove that children tend to share their feelings with their teachers when they feel belonged and have trust. Better mental health may show a high jump in student grades.

Lastly, make sure to be respectful and truthful to your students and keep challenging their potential to bring out the best of their abilities.
