Gin, a distilled spirit, is made from grain and flavoured botanicals of various spices, herbs, flowers and fruit. Gin is essentially pure ethanol or flavourless vodka, flavoured through re-distillation with a range of natural ingredients.

It has been around since the 11th century; derived from the Juniper Berries, Juniperus in Latin, genievre in French and genever from the old English. It started as a medicinal drink since the juniper berries had been an essential part of the doctors’ kit and assumed a “cure-all” potion.

The juniper tonic, which is now known as gin, had been handed out to sick people. Even branches of the said berries were burned, claiming they had purifying properties during the Black Death, which we all know had wiped out a third of Europe.

It even had a calming effect that gave the tonic its name “Dutch Courage“, as it was drunk right before battle by the soldiers during the Eighty Years’ War.

The right way of drinking gin

Gins can be enjoyed straight-up or mixed in drinks. You may prefer to add slices of citrus over an iced gin or mix it with juices, and you are good to go. Gins can be mixed with almost anything you think you want, and with the right palate, you might find that perfect mix that you enjoy drinking.

Australia and the gin market

Every country is different in its culture, climate, food and geography. Australia is recognized as the sixth largest country on the planet comprising 5 percent of the world’s mass. Also called the “Land Down Under” as it falls just below the equator.

As beautiful as the country’s sights, it does not lag in terms of food and beverages. The country is rich in natural resources – both land and sea. The many fertile lands offer bountiful harvests of the best indigent ingredients, while its sea has varieties of high-quality seafoods.

Gin, australian gin to be exact, is one of the most consumed drinks in the country. It has been noted on Roy Morgan’s Alcohol Consumption Report that gin has seen the largest growth. Based on an average four-week period, the rise of consumption is up to 9.0 percent from the previous 7.4 percent confirming that Australians have been drinking spirits more than any other alcohol types.

Although Australia is not the only country creating new gins, distilleries quickly dominated the continent as Australians started the fascination of crafting local gins. What started as 10 domestic gin on the market now skyrocketed to an estimated 700. Australian’s have discovered that they also can and have the skill to level with the international market.

With stiff market competition, a newly introduced gin that does not dwell on the traditional juniper-focused spirit has emerged.  The company started 2015 with Spring Gin as their first product, with its mom as their first client. The momentum continued, and collaborations were made. The company has continued to make bold and unique products and are now serving drinks not only to family members but the whole continent.

Whatever emotion you might be feeling, grabbing a gin or two would always be the better answer. You can choose to drink it alone or with a company – order and grab your australian gin.
