When you’re deciding whether to offshore your company’s tech services, take our advice – don’t!

There are many good reasons why offshoring tech services is a bad idea. And, we would argue, it’s always better to think locally.

Consider, for example, the language barriers and communication issues that arise from dealing with international employees. There is also the annoyingly inconvenient difference in timezone to take into consideration. In addition to this, there could be complications with quality control – especially as you’re less able to oversee workflow processes directly. Lastly, local layoffs due to choosing to engage with an international workforce rather than bolstering our own can have drastically detrimental effects on our home economy.

So if you’re keen to keep your tech onshore, try engaging an Australian link-building service. Stay with us as we explain the reasons why doing this is always the best decision.

Language Barriers

If you choose to offshore your tech services, be prepared to experience communication gaps.

Language barriers are rife when dealing with foreigners, and could impact your ability to communicate effectively about the work that needs to be done. This can be frustrating, and also costly in terms of wasting the most precious resource of all – time.

With a local, Australian-based team, you know they’re speaking your language – in more ways than one! Being able to understand each other, both literally, and also, culturally, is a huge advantage.

Experiencing cultural differences with offshore workers is another massive factor you need to consider. The customs of an international team may be quite different from our own and could prove complicated to navigate. Friction could also potentially occur due to variances in cultural values, as well as social manners of interaction.

You can avoid this awkwardness by employing an Australian team instead, and reap the benefits of working with like-minded locals you can communicate easily with and who understand exactly what you need.

Time Zone Difference

Differences in time zones can also be exceptionally inconvenient. You’ll likely need to make adjustments to your schedule to attend virtual meetings and video conference calls with your offshore team. You may even need to contact them in the middle of the night!

Just imagine you have a tech emergency you need to be dealt with immediately. Who do you call when the offshore team are all fast asleep? Similarly, you may receive international calls in the early hours of the morning, which can be hugely disruptive.

Quality Control

If you’re working with an offshore tech team, naturally, you’ll have less control over operations that are happening internationally. You won’t be able to oversee internal processes or control the quality of the work that is being produced.

Further to this, you could also experience issues with timeliness, which could result in deadlines being missed. This, again, will cost you money and resources to resolve.

Local Layoffs

With Australian unemployment rates rapidly rising, it simply doesn’t make sense to take services offshore. This is costing us local jobs, and having a detrimental effect on our economy. Yes, you may be saving a little on paying lower salaries to your international workers. But in the long term, the economic downturn in our home country will affect your business too.

High unemployment rates also have a considerable effect on national morale. The reduction of available jobs due to offshoring does nothing to help the cost of living crisis we are currently experiencing in Australia. With inflation on the rise, and wages not rising to meet it, adding to national unemployment is the last thing we need. Aussies are already battling to pay their bills – let’s not take their jobs away from them as well.

Are you still considering offshoring your tech services? If so, get ready for the awkwardness and inconvenience of language and cultural barriers, time zone adjustments, and issues with quality control.

Not to mention, of course, that you will be actively contributing to lowering Australia’s employment rate. With our cost of living on the rise, surely, you want your business to be seen to be helping out by contributing to Aussie jobs? If nothing else, offshoring services in this economic climate is an ethical issue, and you’re doing wrong by your fellow Australians if you choose to offshore.
