Hogwarts Legacy was one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of the 2020s and a significant expansion to the ever-growing Wizarding World franchise. It is one of the best-selling games ever, with revenue exceeding $1 billion less than three months after its launch on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
The open world magical offering was a critical success as well, and now there is speculation that it could lead to future offerings in the series. With magical themes going strong throughout the wider gaming industry, another installment is likely to be a great success as well.

Magic is a Popular Theme Throughout the Gaming Industry

There’s no doubt that a part of the reason why Hogwarts Legacy was so successful was down to the popularity of the magical genre throughout gaming. There are countless titles that use this theme, with Magic: The Gathering, Magicka 2, and Elden Ring all using elements of magic. These themes are also prevalent in the freeplay online casino sector. For instance, WOW Vegas attracted players thanks to its welcome bonus of 4.5 Sweepstakes Coins for free. It also uses titles like Alkemor’s Elements to attract players. The title uses a wizard theme and appeals to people in search of magical games.

One of the greatest appeals of Hogwarts Legacy was the fact that it was much more ambitious than anything that came before it. The title from Avalanche Software used the Unreal Engine 4, allowing for the best graphics ever seen in a Wizarding World game. It was also the first offering to use open world mechanics, allowing for greater exploration of Hogwarts and its grounds than ever before.

Players Desperate for Other Ways to Experience the Wizarding World

Hogwarts Legacy was set in the 1800s, long before the events of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts. This gave the creators a lot of freedom in the content that they could include, as they didn’t need to relate it to the established canon. It features completely original characters, with players taking control of a protagonist with the power to control a mysterious form of ancient magic. The game gave players a brand new way to enjoy the world of Harry Potter, but some fans felt that the lack of any major characters was a disappointment.

It still feels as though the Wizarding World franchise is crying out for a worthy title based on Harry Potter. Players have had the chance to experience the films in game form in the past, but most of these failed to impress. Hogwarts Legacy showed what is possible with this franchise, and it could inspire Avalanche Software, or another developer, to explore the idea of making another offering set in the present day timeline of the Wizarding World.

With magical themes enjoying such great success across the gaming industry, it’s no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy was a commercial hit. It was bigger than Warner Bros. Games could have ever imagined, though, and now the publishing company may be looking into other potential games in the future.
